How to clean leather footwear?
Leather has the characteristic of being resistant and durable, but if leather footwear is not properly cared for, its properties will be lost.
In order to maintain the qualities of leather footwear, there are several tips that are detailed below.
Generally speaking, the National Institute for Safety and Hygiene at Work (INSHT) does not recommend that leather shoes be worn by another person, as leather footwear adjusts to the shape of the foot of the first wearer.
In materials such as rubber or plastic this does not happen, so they can be reused after cleaning and disinfection.
On a specific level, there are some recommendations depending on the type of leather:
How to clean brown leather boots?
For the cleaning of brown leather safety boots, it is of utmost importance to clean them with a soft bristle brush, without being too soft, so that the dust can be removed properly.
The leather should then be rubbed with a dry cloth, and if any stains remain, a damp cloth should be used. Once the leather is dry, repeat the first step.
How to clean white leather shoes
In some work sectors, light-coloured safety footwear is compulsory, so this type of footwear gets dirty quickly.
The cleaning procedure for white leather shoes is similar to that for sole-coloured or brown leather. In this case it is advisable to use white cream once or twice a week to slow down the natural wear of the material.
How to clean split leather work boots?
The cleaning procedure is similar to that of leather boots. First of all, the shoes should be brushed in several directions with a white brush.
Afterwards, a cloth should be dampened and wiped lightly over the surface to remove any remaining dust and/or stains.
For drying, do not expose the footwear to heat or sunlight, but dry it naturally.
How to remove grease from work shoes?
Removing grease from footwear is easier than it may seem at first glance.
First of all, it is always advisable to follow the manufacturer’s instructions, so a clean wet cloth and a little white soap are necessary.
Before rubbing over the selected area, it is advisable to rub over a hidden surface of the shoe to check if it is working properly.
Finally, wipe with a damp cloth to remove the product and leave it in a shady place to dry.
How to clean mud from work shoes?
Before starting to clean the footwear, the mud should be left to dry in a cool, dry and shaded area. Afterwards, use a soft-bristled brush.
If the dirt remains, the brush should be dampened with clean water, with the possibility of adding a little soap if necessary.
